Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Release Postponed

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) on Friday pushed back the release of SQL Server 2008 until the third quarter.
Microsoft had planned for a second-quarter release of the product, but insisted the later date still keeps the company on track to ship the database software within the original goal of 24 to 36 months after SQL Server 2005. "We are on track to reach this goal," the company said a blog dedicated to SQL Server.

HP launches FOSS tracking project

San Francisco - Hewlett-Packard has launched the FOSSology Project, a tool for tracking and monitoring the use of free and open-source software within an IT environment.

The project stems from governance work done in-house at HP, according to the Web site set up for the project.

IBM Upgrades Tivoli Software For Datacenter Automation

IBM on Friday introduced a new version of its data center automation software, adding several enhancements.

In general, Tivoli Provisioning Manager 5.1.1 automates the discovery, deployment, configuration, and management of operating systems, patches, middleware, and applications on physical and virtual servers. The software can manage virtualization technologies, SAN- and NAS-based storage resources, and network devices acting as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, IBM said.
